今年の夏、大阪でのリハーサルで初めて"ラリーパパ"と出逢った時から、私は彼らに恋をしてしまった。見事なヴォーカル・ワークといい、

ファンキーなリズムといい、音楽のテクニックにかける情熱といい、私はラリーパパの大ファンになってしまったのだ。

 

彼らの秀逸なバッキングとユーモアのセンス、エンターテイナー精神のおかげで、2003年のジャパン・ツアーは忘れ得ぬ素敵な体験となった。

彼らを自分の息子のように思っている。彼らがプレイすると、光がキラキラと輝き出すのだ！

 

1曲目「黄金のうたたね」の冒頭でキム・ガンホが奏でる"マウンテン"バンジョーのピュアで澄み切ったサウンドに始まり、

「Small Town Talk」での最後のコーラスに至るまで、このアルバムは老いぼれたソングライターにとってとびきりのご褒美だ。

ラテンのリズム、ジャズ・ロック、ジャンプ・ブルーズ、そして古き良き時代のシンプルなロックンロール・サウンドが

心に沁み入る美しいバラードの中に隅なく編み込まれている。

 

ボンド"Staro"ツジの絶妙なパーカッション・ワークと"一流ベーシスト"トム・ミズタがきっちりと引き締めている。

"ボトム・ライン"の功績により、このアルバムは常にグルーヴ感をキープしている。

キム"ホワイト・スネイク"スチョリはヴォーカルを取り、全曲を通して素晴らしく"スワンプ"なピアノをプレイしているし、

キム・ガンホは私の友人であるジェシ・エド・デイヴィスの精神を受け継ぐエキサイティングで独創的なギタリストだ。

 

チョウ・ヒョンレは心の琴線を震わせるソウルフルなヴォーカルで「Small Town Talk」を見事にカバーしている。

リック・ダンコもボビー・チャールズも、きっと誇りに思うに違いない。 

 

 

From the first time I met "RALLYPAPA" at rehearsal in Osaka this summer I fell in love with them...... their great vocals, funky rhythms and their passion for the art of music has made me their biggest fan.

 

Their excellent accompaniment, sense of humor and showmanship made my Japan Tour '03 an unforgettable and wonderful experience. I think of them as my sons...... When these guys play the lights shine bright!

 

From the opening sounds of Kim Gwangho's pure and clear, "Mountain" Banjo on the first song to the final Chorus on "Small Town Talk" ...... this album is a rare treat - for an 'ol songdog. If weaves its way through a hauntingly, beautiful ballad into Latin Rhythms, Jazz Rock, Jump Blues and just good 'ol Good Time Rock and Roll Music. 

 

Thanks to the fine percussion work by Bondo "Staro" Tsuji and the solid "Bottom Line" laid down by "1st Bass Man" Tom Mizuta, the album never loses it's groove. Mr. Kim "White Snake" Sucholi sings and plays wonderful "Swampy" piano on all the cuts and Kim Gwangho is an exciting, inventive guitar player in the spirit of my friend Jesse Ed Davis. Cho Hyeongrae sings a great, soulful, heartfelt version of "Small Town Talk" that I'm sure would make Rick Danko and Bobby Charles proud......
